Privacy Policy

Effective October 11, 2026

Axial Launcher is a home-screen replacement for Android. It does not contain advertising or analytics SDKs, does not create an account, and does not operate a developer-controlled server.

Installed apps and launcher settings

Axial reads the names, package identifiers, launch activities, icons, and Android categories of launchable apps so it can display and open them. Favorites, custom categories, colors, navigation settings, and other preferences are stored only on this device. Installed-app information is not sold, used for advertising, or sent off the device by Axial.

Screen time

Screen time is optional and disabled by default. If you enable it and grant Android Usage Access, Axial reads screen interactive, non-interactive, lock, unlock, startup, and shutdown event timestamps for the previous seven days. It does not retain or return package names or per-app usage histories. Axial stores only daily totals and coverage information on this device. This information is not transmitted.

Weather and location

Weather is optional and disabled by default. It requires an API key supplied by you. You can choose a city without granting location access. If you select device location, Axial requests approximate foreground location for that request; it does not request background location or continuously track you.

Weather requests send your OpenWeather API key, latitude and longitude, and temperature unit directly to OpenWeather over HTTPS. City searches send the entered city query and API key. OpenWeather also receives normal connection information such as your IP address. These requests do not pass through an Axial server. OpenWeather processes this information under its privacy policy and account terms.

The API key is encrypted with Android Keystore. Your selected location and the latest weather response are stored locally. Weather is refreshed while the launcher is visible, normally no more than once every 30 minutes.

Wallpaper, battery, connectivity, notifications, and hardware diagnostics

If you choose a wallpaper, Axial imports a resized local copy of only the image selected through Android's system document picker. It does not request access to your whole photo library and does not upload the image. Battery percentage and charging state are read locally for the home-screen indicator.

Optional home-screen connectivity indicators are processed locally. Cellular status uses only Android’s general 0–4 signal level for the default mobile connection; Axial does not read phone numbers, carrier names, SIM identities, or per-SIM details. Wi-Fi status uses only whether the radio is enabled, whether the active network uses Wi-Fi, and whether Android reports validated internet access; Axial does not read the network name. Bluetooth status is off by default. If enabled, Android may request Nearby devices access so Axial can read adapter and public connection state. Axial does not display, save, or upload Bluetooth device names or addresses.

Hardware Diagnostics has separate Input and Vibrate tests. Input records nothing until you explicitly start capture. During capture, Axial temporarily keeps Android and Flutter key identifiers, scan codes, event source and action metadata, timing, and relative pointer or Trackpad movement in memory. Key identifiers can reveal which physical key was pressed, but Axial does not record resolved or composed text, clipboard content, accounts, serial numbers, persistent device identifiers, or absolute pointer coordinates. Input capture is limited to 60 seconds or 500 events and clears when you leave the page or app.

Vibrate runs only when you explicitly select a feedback test. It keeps your manual Felt / Not felt answers, test attempts, API completion or error status, and basic device model, Android and Axial version information in memory. API completion does not confirm that physical vibration occurred. It captures no raw keys or typed text. Results clear when you leave the test page or background the app. Neither test saves or uploads a report automatically. You may choose to copy a human-readable summary or JSON report to the clipboard and share it yourself.

Notification indicators are optional and disabled by default. If you enable them and grant Android Notification Access, Axial reads active notifications only to show the source app's small status icon and a notification count. It does not display, save, or upload notification titles, message text, contacts, account details, or notification history. Processing stays in memory on this device. By default, silent and ongoing notifications are excluded; you can include them in settings.

Optional support

The About page includes an optional link to support development on Ko-fi. Opening it launches an external browser or Android link handler at https://ko-fi.com/axial_launcher. Axial does not attach device identifiers or launcher data to this link, handle payments, or receive payment details. Ko-fi and the selected payment provider process website visits and payments under their own privacy policies. Tips do not unlock Axial features or content. Ko-fi privacy policy.

Permissions

Axial uses Internet access for optional OpenWeather requests. External provider and support links open in a browser or Android link handler, which handles its own network connection. Approximate location is requested only after you choose device location for weather. Usage Access is opened only after you enable screen time and accept the in-app explanation. Notification Access is opened only after you choose notification indicators and accept the in-app explanation. Bluetooth status requests Nearby devices access only after you choose to display it; Wi-Fi and cellular indicators use local system state without requesting phone identities or location access. All optional features remain usable in an off state without their permissions.

Storage, backup, and deletion

Axial stores its settings, categories, screen-time totals, weather configuration, and selected wallpaper in the app's private storage. Android cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for Axial data. You can remove the API key and weather data, clear screen-time history, remove the wallpaper, or reset settings inside the app. Uninstalling Axial removes its remaining private data. An OpenWeather API key must be revoked separately through your OpenWeather account if you want to invalidate it.

Children

Axial is a general utility and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
